"Recalling is arguably the most challenging cue to master. Not because there is one particular technique that is hard to learn, but because the human-dog bond plays such  a big role. The ultimate question is: are you the MOST INTERESTING entity in your dog's environment at any given moment? And if you aren't then: how do you become THAT?"

Who are Kona & Iulia? Why Adopt That Monster?

Iulia Domnisan, founder of Adopt That Monster, grew up in Bucharest, Romania, and now splits her time between her hometown and the stunning island of Crete, Greece. She shares her life with Kona, her adopted “monster,” who, once a highly reactive dog, has taught her as much as any of her clients have about the transformative power of patience, love, and understanding.

For the past six years, Iulia has been dedicated to studying, researching and working with rescue dogs and helping guardians build fulfilling, lasting relationships with their adopted fluffs—especially those labeled as “difficult,” “stubborn,” or “independent.” Drawing from her personal and professional experience, Iulia specializes in guiding guardians through the unique journey of raising adopted dogs.

Her expertise in RECALL and REACTIVITY MANAGEMENT is tailored not only to the specific needs of rescue dogs but also to empowering their guardians. Adopt That Monster supports both the guardian and the dog, providing the knowledge, tools, and confidence to navigate the complexities of life with an adopted dog. Iulia focuses on helping guardians understand their rescue dog’s unique behavior and psychology, enabling them to face the challenges that may arise, especially when dealing with unfamiliar or difficult behaviors. By equipping guardians with practical strategies and insights, Adopt That Monster fosters a deeper bond and trust between humans and their dogs, ensuring both thrive in their lifelong journey together.

When she’s not empowering guardians to connect deeply with their dogs, you’ll find Iulia and Kona exploring nature—whether hiking, strolling through parks, or enjoying long beach walks. Kona’s favorite pastimes include rolling in the stinkiest dead animals she can find, chewing on bones, and chasing balls. Iulia, on the other hand, loves a good swim in the ocean, curling up with a romance novel, or volunteering at local animal shelters.

At Adopt That Monster, Iulia believes in one guiding principle: “Beyond adoption, into the heart of true connection!”
